No Running?

So you say you won't be doing the running WODs?  Curses.

I am going to program anyway and I guess you can modify as you see fit.

The WOD

Run 3x1200 meters
Rest 2 minutes between each interval

Post split times to comments.

I have spent most of the past 4 days walking.  Zoo, Cabrillo, Coronado twice, Seals twice, Gaslamp, Stone, Old Town. . . . I have done a lot of walking.  I feel strong though.  I even carried Tessie when she wouldn't ride in the stroller anymore.

My diet has been off for a few days.  Only 29 points for this week.  That is right Jonny.  If you didn't beat me this week, you aren't going to do it.  My total overall is at 201.  Four more weeks.

  1. I am so excited to write that I made it to the CF gym this morning. I considered not going because Claire had a 105 temperature. But I decided Greggie could make it two doors over to the Urgent Care Center if she seized. I don't know if that makes me a good mom or a really bad one :/

    WOD
    5 RFT
    7 clean squat thrusters 35/25
    10 pull ups

Mine was more like clean, minus the squat, thrusters with 10 pound dumbbells. I REALLY need to work on squatting without support. 13:48.

There were a dozen women there, no men. (It is at 9 a.m., on post so I figured as much.) I felt like a total outsider. I was by FAR the weakest person there. (At least half of them were doing all 50 pullups withouts assist. SERIOUSLY? I want to do just one.) And it took me a long time to get all of the motions to work together. So, I felt like an ass. And I really wanted to run away. But I powered through at my best. And I will go back all week.

  2. Jenn, the first time I went in the Crossfit gym at Leavenworth I felt like an ass too. And the second time. And the third time. I vowed to keep going and to do what I could and work on the rest. Any Crossfitter that I have ever met is extremely inclusive and will go out of their way to make you feel included. I will say that "real Crossfitters" will go beyond that even and try to make sure that you "drink the Kool Aid" or perhaps "almond milk" as it would be. Crossfit is a movement that is sweeping the globe and those who have been properly indoctrinated will spread the word. Have you seen all of the Reebok commercials with Crossfit-esque exercises and Crossfit approved apparel? How about the Michael Phelps Subway commercial where he is doing thrusters or shoulder presses? It is everywhere. Maybe I look for it more than most, but it is there all the same. Keep up the good work. There is something about "going to the gym" that helps you to throw that switch and focus. I know that at home I have good and bad WODs unless someone is doing them with me. With a partner I am always on.

As for the sick Claire. . . I am here to tell you that I was (and am) a far better parent when I take care of the few minutes a day that I carve out for me. You had a capable adult present and I applaud the dedication.

  3. Jenn: GO BACK, GO BACK, GO BACK. You are not an outsider. You are a strong woman: you can surf, you can write, you can photograph, you can capture EVERYTHING! Weak? Jenn Anderson? NO WAY. Keep going. You belong there. YOU WILL GO BACK ALL WEEK . . . and I won't eat a sleeve of Thin Mints today or tomorrow or the next day. We can do it! We can. And we will!

(I can't do one pullup in my uniform--the boots and weapon/ammo KILL me--but I keep trying. Even though my pullup mentor can do hundreds I keep trying.)

  4. G: You are funny. Almond milk! I love that. I hear "clever" is the new "sexy."

Jenn: I, too, applaud your dedication as a CrossFitter and a parent. I bet Claire will remember "that time she was sick and Uncle Greg--I hope I got his name right--helped her feel better."
