This was a good workout. We had to add situps to make it work for the three of us. We made it to 21 and for the last round we went with 12 IOT complete all four exercises before time ran out.

The gym is getting crowded in the morning, so it actually works out well when we can just grab a few pieces of equipment and head to the MWR building where there is more space. We can get all gummed up in the gym and it slows us down. We'll adapt and overcome!

  2. Re: Yesterday
    1. I walked to and from school all by myself starting in 2nd grade. Now, on post, my kids can be taken away if I let them ride up the street without me. Craziness.
    2. I am up for the challenge. 62 days. Sure, why not? My goals... Definitely strength improvement. And I'd like to lose 20 pounds. Without flour it will probably happen.
    3. WOD today (I always a day behind): I did the burpees out in the grass next to where the kids have drama class. I am sure the other mothers were ogling. Ah well. I didn't run. No excuse. I did surf. It is good for my soul.
    4. I have a sore hammy (yep, just one) and an exhausted upper torso. Whatever I'm doing is working something.
    5. Lisa, the books are fabulous. I am halfway through Happiness and Omnivore. I will give a more thorough review when I am done. And I will start Illegal then. I a LOVING night time reading. :)

  3. Wow, my keyboard needs new batteries. Or I need spellcheck.

  4. 20 Pounds? I will see your 20 pounds. I might look prisoner-esque at the end of it. Jenn, I can't imagine that you have 20 pounds to lose, but if you say so and it is your goal I will support it! Good for you. The only factor that we will monitor is that you will be adding muscle. We aren't that old yet that we can't add muscle.

For the two of you who are doing more reading than me at this moment, perhaps "Atlas Shrugged" should be on your list if you haven't read it already. I watched Part one and while I loved it, am filled with regret that I didn't read it first. I read a few Ayn Rand books, just not that one.

Jenn, I have cow envy. I can see buying some when Lisa gets back. Maybe before. It will be a race to see whether I turn the freezer into a kegerator or fill it with meat first. Either way I win.

  5. I was able to complete the round of 24 plud 5 Box Jumps. I actually wished I had added the situps during the round of 12 as I think I would have liked them as a "break." KBS and Box Jumps were taking a toll on my lower back as I tired. I used the 53# kettlebell figuring I might as well work hard. What I forgot to account for was my sheer force of will to keep pushing even when it starts to hurt. Good workout. My forearms are weak now. I was able to go unbroken on KBS through 15 and pushups through 18. The box jumps were never really "broken" but I could have gone faster at times. Total reps 113 Box Jumps, 108 KBS, 108 Pushups in the 20 minutes.

  6. Plus not plud. Plud was the sound when I failed and landed in the dirt on top of the retaining wall during the 21 round of box jumps.

  7. Gary: I ask that we not have a repeat of my return from Iraq where you weighed three pounds less than me! Ugh. Twenty pounds? On you? no way. No way. DON'T DO IT! You have too much muscle to lose if you do.

And, I think you should buy the cow/pig/chicken now. Do it for the girls! We have the deep freezer ready NOW--it just needs to be filled. I try very hard not to think about the meat here. I just don't do it.

Your typo response is funny. You are a goofball.

Jenn: I don't believe you have 20 pounds to lose either. I just don't see it. We don't have a scale here and I'm going to go the entire deployment NOT weighing myself . . . unless I am getting on an aircraft and then I weigh like 350 lbs with all my shit! I am going with how I feel (am I rested? am I sore? am I hard to the touch? can I feel that blobblyness in my ass--the area right below/back of my hips? do I feel strong? am I able to go faster/longer/harder/with more skill?); how I look naked (thank goodness for the full-length mirror in the privacy of my own cubby) and how I fit into my clothes (even though cammies aren't the best measure).

Both: I'm going to do this Paleo challenge as prescribed. We'll see how it goes with what I've got. The afternoons are my nemesis.

And I just purchased Atlas Shrugged. I need to stay off Amazon.

  8. Great! I want to read Atlas Shrugged! I will look into some meat. I still have that sheet from the Farmer's Market. Give me a little credit, I planned to do it. . . sometimes I just drag my feet. I don't think I will lose 20, but I do know that I have more fat on my body than I would like to think. I was pretty light when I ran Omaha and I was decently strong. I will see. I am not going to starve myself. That is definitely not something I am interested in. I will go the 62 days until Easter. I will then eat some Easter candy, probably feel ill, and try to go to an 85-15 or 90-10 Paleo plan for life. I tend to slack off when we have company or if we are "out on the town." I am going to be all buffed up for spending the summer at the beach. . . I think my happy zone is somewhere in the 172-178 zone which is NOT 20 pounds of loss. 20 would take me to the 160s. I was 166 when you came home from Iraq. I wasn't as fast as I am at 172-178 though. Too skinny. Smart. That is my plan. I will track my weight loss. I am going to say I will drop in the 12-16 pound range. Just a guess. My weakness is nuts. Even within paleo eating I tend to eat too many.

  9. Weakness = nuts. There's a good joke in there.

I added situps to the workout.

I started with my physical therapy. One legged squats. HA!

And then the 20 minute AMRAP. I made it through 21. Plus 24 box (OK, way smaller than any box - shall we call it step?) jumps. Plus 15 pushups. Time was up. And I stopped. Without guilt. :)

I am using a borrowed 20 pound kettle bell. I also have a 10. And a 5 so the kids can work out with me!

  10. Great work Jenn!

There are too many directions to go with the "weaknuts."

  11. Ayn Rand, Anthem.
I thought it was great in high school, still outstanding now. However over the years I have softend on my stances and find good company with 'On the Road' by Jack Kerouac. Just a different view of the world. Still, best book ever written in my opinion is 'A River Runs Through it' by Norman Maclean. Its philosophical and yet so personal. It seems to speak to me in the sense of my own faimly. I could go on and on, but I see my brother in Norman and myself in Paul.
